It used to be that the broad label of made in the USA instilled confidence in the origins of produce meat ingredients and other food products. And many brands have in fact and still do incorporate made in the USA into their marketing messaging. But now the question is. What state was it made in? And this is because there have been numerous train derailments in 2023, where hazardous materials have been spilled into local environments.
And so of course we know about the train derailment in East Palestine on February 3rd. This derailment not only impacts Ohio, but also surrounding states, including Pennsylvania and West Virginia. And there, on June 24th, there was a derailment that spilled 500, 000 pounds of asphalt into the Yellowstone River, and of course that’s going to directly affect Ohio.
Montana. On March 8th, we had a terrain derailment in Calhoun County, Alabama. On March 22nd, there was a derailment in Van Buren Township, Michigan. And on August 12th, there was a derailment in Springfield, Ohio. And two of the materials, two of the chemicals involved in multiple of these derailments are vinyl chloride and ethylene glycol.
So again, now the question is Where exactly is your food made? I understand that you’re sourcing ingredients from the United States, but where exactly are these ingredients coming from?
