New Books Arriving Damaged But You Paid for Mint Condition

I recently purchased this book from Amazon. And when it arrived, the front cover was completely folded back inside the packaging, and that has resulted in a significant permanent crease that now runs across the front cover of the book. And of course, new books arriving with Damage or defects is nothing new.

Sometimes a book will arrive and the corners will be smashed in. Other times the covers will be bent. There can also be wrinkled pages, etc. But this needs to change. Right now this happens because sometimes the workers at Amazon or the processing facility will mishandle the books. I think that was the case with this book because the front cover was bent back inside the packaging.

And then other times, of course postal workers or the people that are shipping the packages are tossing the packages around. And that results in some kind of damage, especially when a bubble wrap container is used. So if customers pay for a new book, Then a new book should arrive. It should arrive in pristine condition.

There’s a reason that people purchase the new over the used books. And one of those reasons is that the book arrives in pristine condition. So that’s what should take place. Now, of course you can return the book to Amazon. Then we get into an in between state where it’s not really worth the time and effort to repackage the book back up and then send it back in to Amazon and then wait for a new book to arrive.

And if you think about it, it’s not worth it from the Amazon’s point of view either. And so this could be Amazon, it could be any other book retailer. But it’s not worth it from their point of view, because then they have to take the book in, do whatever they do with it, and then reship a new book back, and that’s completely inefficient and results in a loss.

So, it’s better just to have the books sent out in perfect condition as they should be. So, this, what should happen is… Retailers should invest in technology to package the book. They should also improve their shipping and handling procedures so that the books aren’t pre damaged before they’re even packaged.

And I think that’s what happened, happened with mine is someone just shoved the book in with no regard for the bent cover. And then otherwise. Then we need to ensure that the books remain in pristine condition as they’re being shipped. So I ended up keeping this book just because it wasn’t worth the time and effort necessary to repackage it back up and then send it back to Amazon.

I just wanted a book, but I wanted the book to arrive in new condi in a new condition. I appreciate the aesthetics of a new book. I like my books to look nice, to be as pristine as possible. But of course, this has the glaring bent cover on it. And so that’s all I wanted to cover in this episode is that new books should be, should arrive as new especially when the distinction between.

New and used is made in selling the books.
